ANTI-SCAM POLICY
NEVER SEND ANY MONEY TO ANYONE YOU MEET ONLINE! PLEASE NOTE, THAT THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE HAD COMMUNICATION WITH SOMEONE FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE PERSON IS LEGITIMATE! SOME SCAMMERS CAN CARRY ON COMMUNICATION FOR SEVERAL MONTHS!
Signs of scam She falls in love with you after several letters. Until you"ve met in person and spent time together, any claims of love should be suspect. She insists or strongly suggests that she wants to visit you and not visa versa. A good test is to advise her that you are willing to come to Russia even if you are not going to. For scammer this would mean that no money is to be sent. She says she wants to learn English (or any other language that is your native language) to be able to communicate with you when you come. Unless you"ve met in person and things are serious, you have no reason to be paying for her to study foreign languages. She avoids direct questions about her personal life, where she lives, home address, phone number, place of employment.. She Hints that Internet cafe is expensive for her. See standard scam scenario. Using Internet cafe can really be expensive for the woman. But if she claims it"s costing her $100 - $150 per month, then you need to be suspicious. She says she can visit you. See scam scenario - visa scam and tickets scam. A lot times scammers use bogus travel agencies. Usually these agencies do not even exist. Watch out for simple things like: does the travel agent have a website? What kind of email address are they using? Does the email match the website address? Ask a name of travel agency and all contact information of travel agency. Make sure the travel agency you are dealing with has a license, because all travel agencies in Russia are required to have a license. Even if an agency has a license it is still a good idea to follow all the advice given above. Very often scammers will try to make you feel uncomfortable about you being extra cautious, asking for additional information or insisting on using a reputable travel agent. A sincere lady will understand this and is unlikely to put any pressure on you or object to anything. She comes from one of these risk locations: Joshkar-Ola (Yoshkar-Ola) and Mari El Republic, Kazan, Cheboksary, Gomel. If you are communicating with a lady from one of these locations you should take extra caution. She is too beautiful to be true - though she can do some modeling and photos were taken by professional photographer; you shouldn"t suspect every beautiful girl to be a scammer or have false photos. Ask her to send additional photos that are not made in the studio. Your chances of being scammed only increase with the age difference. Often 60 year old men write to 20 - 25 year old girls, and that"s just asking for trouble. She is having money problems - she loose her salary, her mother/children need expensive medicine - and she can only turn to you for help as she knows you love each other and are meant to be together soon. It"s not appropriate at all in any culture to ask a stranger you"ve never met to help you.
